(This is what happens when Mom & Dad are miles and miles apart during the week - they both write blogs about the same thing. Nonetheless... here's my, slightly more verbose, take on it all)
You've gotta love the Fall. The leaves are changing colors, aromas of baked goods like pumpkin spice cake fill the air, you can get away with buying more candy on trips to the grocery store, you get to carve into a vegetable without having to eat it, and there's a day where you can dress crazy and yet people won't necessarily think you are, in fact, crazy.
Last week, in line with the season, we took Emerson to a nearby pumpkin patch… twice!
The first day was kind of a spontaneous idea that Erin and I had since we were already in the car running errands. By the way spontaneity is pretty hard to come by these days, so we just rolled with it. We kept Emerson in his car seat and carried him around, taking a few cute but random pics. Before we could get too far into our picture taking and pumpkin searching, Emerson began to wail - it was feeding time. Our spontaneity was pretty short-lived and we headed home to get Emerson some "food". We did buy a mini-pumpkin on our way out because we felt bad for just stopping by and taking pics and not buying anything.
Day 2, however, was much more "planned" - something that, if you know Dad, he doesn't do well but is quickly getting accustomed to (he's much more of the spontaneous type). We even dressed Emerson in an adorable "My First Halloween" pumpkin outfit - not his Halloween costume mind you, just his "I'm getting ready for Halloween and excited about it outfit" - we all of at least one or two of those don't we?
The weather was gorgeous and Emerson was loving the pumpkin patch on Day 2. He told me he really enjoyed his first (well, second) pumpkin patch experience. You can see the excitement on his face in the pics.
On Sunday, we carved the pumpkins into jack-o-lantern masterpieces. One for Dad, one for Mom, one for Emerson, and one for Porter - one big happy family.
